At St Mary’s RC Primary School, we believe that every child’s voice matters. Guided by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, particularly Article 12, we recognise that all children have the right to express their views on matters that affect them – and to have those views taken seriously. This is not just a principle we talk about – it is something we actively live out every day.
That’s why every learner at St Mary’s is a member of a Pupil Voice Group. These groups give our pupils the opportunity to share their ideas, make decisions, and contribute to school life in meaningful ways. From eco initiatives to wellbeing, school improvement to charity fundraising, our Pupil Voice Groups cover a wide range of areas where children can make a real difference.
This approach promotes responsibility, confidence, leadership, and active citizenship. It helps our pupils to understand that their opinions are valued and that they can effect positive change within their school and wider community. Most importantly, it shows them that they are respected as individuals – and that they have a vital role to play in shaping the world around them.
Our Pupil Voice Groups don’t just give children a platform – they help to form young people who are confident, compassionate, and committed to living out their faith in action. By listening to and acting on the voices of our pupils, we help them grow as leaders today and thoughtful citizens of tomorrow.
