Prayer and Liturgy

At St Mary’s RC Primary, Jesus Christ remains central to every aspect of school life. Our aim is to be a living, loving, and sacramental community, inspired by His life and the teachings of the Church, and rooted in Gospel values. From the moment you enter our school, we hope you can see and feel that we are truly a Catholic community, united in faith.

Acts of worship can take place at any point during the day, whether as a whole school gathering or within smaller class groups. It’s essential to note that at our school, there’s no confusion between Collective Worship and Assemblies. When we come together for Collective Worship, we focus on the Word of God, employing symbols and rituals while being open to God’s presence amongst us.

Collective Worship is woven into the very fabric of our ethos, aims, and relationships. It reflects our Christian values, permeating all aspects of school life and the relationships we foster. This approach allows us to deepen our individual and collective relationship with God. By engaging in various forms of worship, we enhance our spiritual, moral, and liturgical understanding, growing together in our living faith tradition. It nurtures a sense of wonder and inspiration in the person of Christ, allowing us to share our faith experiences and develop vital skills in prayer and reflection.

Daily, staff and pupils at St Mary’s are encouraged to partake in thoughtful prayer experiences, including school Masses, liturgies, assemblies, and individual reflective prayer. Our worship follows the liturgical year and encompasses feast days, Gospel Virtues, and world events, helping pupils appreciate their place in society and respect those around them. This aspect of life at St Mary’s is indeed very special and significant for all of us!
